Motor Yacht "A" by Philippe Starck
Philippe Starck designed Motor Yacht A with Martin Francis for Andrey Melnichenko - a self-made billionaire from Belarus who made his fortune through banking and energy investments. Forbes listed Andrey Melnichenko this year as the 105th wealthiest person in the world, with a net worth of $8.6 billion. Reminiscent of a submarine warship the mega yacht’s name is a tribute to Andrey Melnichenko and his wife Serbian fashion model Aleksandra Nikolic. The couple has their own legendary logo—a capital A with stenciled foliage.
Built by Blohm + Voss, Motor Yacht A is 119 meters long and weighs approximately 5,500 tonnes. The yacht, a sleek, modern monster designed by Philippe Starck, allegedly cost more than $300 million to build, boasts nearly 24,000 square feet of living space, employs a crew of at least 35, contains a master suite encased in bomb-proof 44-millimeter glass, and requires more than half a million dollars just to fill up the 200,000-gallon gas tank. Walls are covered in stingray and silver leaf, Baccarat-crystal tables and floor-to-ceiling mirrors fill the guest suites and vast interiors, and exotic Michel Haillard horned chairs covered in crocodile skin have tails that slink out onto the floor.
