53 Stubbs Road by Frank Gehry, Hong Kong
The first residential development in Asia undertaken by the Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehry, 53 Stubbs Road at the Peak offers an unprecedented standard of luxury living in Hong Kong's most distinctive neighbourhood. With a size of 6,000 sq ft, each exclusive residence overlooks the Victoria Harbour, and is presented to offer highly personal space in a most sough-after location. The site will be developed into a single, 12-storey residential building. Developed by Swire Properties, the project is expected to complete by 2012.
Incorporated in 1972, Swire Properties develops and manages commercial, retail, hotel and residential properties, with a particular focus on mixed-use development in prime locations at major mass transportation intersections. The Company’s investment portfolio in Hong Kong totals approximately 1.66 million m2.
A protege of legendary futurist architect William Pereira, Canadian-born Frank Owen Gehry is known for his whimsical and often bizarre forms, usually clad in steel and titanium, that defy any and all pre-conceived notions about architecture. His blocky, faceted buildings, which often appear warped and melted, are always met with both intense criticism and praise. Nonetheless, the odd beauty of his structures, and the way they demand attention in any setting, have won Gehry worldwide fame. He is best known for his designs of the Guggenheim Museum in Spain and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.
