Johnny Depp Buys a Palazzo in Venice, Italy
Johnny Depp paid $13.4 million for the 17th century Palazzo Dona Sangiantoffetti in Venice after falling in love with the city during filming "The Tourist" with Angelina Jolie last year. According to local newspaper "La Nuova Venezia," the actor outbid an Arab prince for the empty building, which is situated in the Santa Croce area of Venice and is one of the only available homes overlooking the famous Grand Canal. Johnny fell in love with this empty building, which is situated not far from the Santa Maria Mater Domini Church. Santa Croce is within the upper curve of the Grand Canal, in the western corner of Venice. The sestiere (district) is bordered by the Grand Canal to the north and the districts of San Polo and Dorsoduro. It's small and closely-packed, and includes one of Venice's busiest spots; the bus station at Piazzale Roma.
