Joseph Lau buys a home in Eaton Square
Joseph Lau paid £33m for his new home in Eaton Square
A Hong Kong billionaire - Joseph Lau, who has a £2.5 billion fortune, has spent £33m on a six-floor mansion in Eaton Square, Belgravia. The white stucco house has its own cinema, a swimming pool, gym and servant quarters. Although his mansion was bought by an offshore company, it is intended for his personal use. Lau, 57, made his money in the 1990s as one of Hong Kong's most controversial corporate raiders. The previous owner of Lau's new home was Vivian Imerman, a UK-based South African investor who has a £375m fortune. He bought the house in December 2005 for £9.5m.
Lau is also believed to have shown interest in buying a mansion in nearby Belgrave Square. It is on the market for £80m, although he is prepared to pay only about £60m.
